DETAILED COMPARISON: SAMSONITE FREEFORM VS OMNI PC

We’ll compare both the Samsonite Freeform and the Samsonite Omni PC luggage options on different parameters such as material, durability, organization, expansion, design, security, maneuverability, and prices so that you can get a clear understanding and make the best decision. So let’s start with material and durability.

Which Luggage is more durable: Freeform or Omni PC

Here is the biggest difference when it comes to the material of both the Samsonite Freeform and the Samsonite Omni PC: The Samsonite Freeform is made of injection-molded polypropylene material, while the Samsonite Omni PC is made of polycarbonate material.

Both materials are totally different. Polycarbonate is a little bit more durable compared to polypropylene. When it comes to the perfect plastic material for luggage, polycarbonate is the first recommendation, followed by polypropylene.

However, the material used in the Freeform is also excellent because it’s not normal polypropylene but injection-molded. When we experienced the material of the Freeform, we found it to be above our expectations and quite durable and flexible. The Samsonite Freeform is more flexible and lightweight than the Omni PC.

Both pieces of luggage are scratch-resistant, but to be honest, they’ll get small scratches over a period of time, and the Freeform is more likely to come scuffed after your trip because of the polypropylene material. However, you can deal with these issues with the help of protective luggage covers, so they won’t cause any big problems.

This was all about the exterior material; now let’s talk about the interior. The material and stitching of the interior are excellent on both pieces of luggage. However, we found the interior material, especially the large divider pocket, of the Samsonite Freeform more durable than that of the Samsonite Omni PC.

Overall, both the Samsonite Freeform and the Samsonite Omni PC are great options in terms of material quality and durability. You can surely choose anyone, and you won’t regret it at all.

Design and aesthetics: which one feels more appealing?

Design or appearance is always a subjective choice. However, if you’d like to know my experience, I personally prefer Freeform. Here are the reasons why:

The Freeform looks more futuristic and stylish in its appearance. The edges and corners give a fantastic look that definitely reflects my personality whenever I visit an airport. The exterior has a ribbed design that makes it even more appealing.

The main logo of Samsonite has been creatively aligned in the center of the luggage. Apart from that, all the other elements of the luggage, such as the handle, wheels, and zippers, are decorated with the Samsonite logo. The interior of the suitcase is designed in such a way that it completely matches the theme of the exterior.

When it comes to the Samsonite Omni PC, also comes with a premium design and is designed in such a manner that it never seems to be budget luggage. Samsonite has paid serious attention to every small element. That’s why Samsonite has given the expander zipper a red color so that it can be identified easily and quickly.

The beauty of the Omni PC is that it suits all types of travelers, whether you’re young or old, a business traveler, a solo traveler, or an adventure traveler. You’ll find it matches your personality. And of course, that’s not the case with the Samsonite Freeform.

Overall, both luggage options are excellent in terms of design and appearance. Both have different textures and match different personalities.

When it comes to color, the Samsonite Freeform comes with more than 14 color options, while the Omni PC comes with more than 10 colors. You can choose whichever suits your personality best. But what we recommend is choosing a color that is less popular at airports and easier to spot at the baggage carousel.

Security and TSA-Approved Locking System

The TSA lock has now become one of the most important features because everyone loves privacy. It becomes even more important, especially if you’re traveling to the US. Fortunately, both the Samsonite Freeform and the Samsonite Omni PC come with this essential feature.

Both pieces of luggage work really well, and we found no issue with the performance or quality of the luggage. However, there is a big difference between the locks on both pieces of luggage. The Freeform lock looks much better than that of the Omni PC. When you look at the locks, you’ll surely feel that the lock on the Omni PC has a traditional touch and looks older compared to that of the Freeform.

When it comes to functionality, the Samsonite Freeform has an advantage over the Samsonite Omni PC because the mechanism of the Freeform lock is a little different from that of the Omni PC. The zippers on the Samsonite Freeform are easier to put inside the lock, and of course, that’s not the case with the Samsonite Omni PC.

It’ll really be difficult for you to put the zippers inside the lock if the Omni PC is standing in a vertical position. For that, you’ll have to turn the luggage sideways and lay it down with the TSA lock facing upwards; then you’ll easily put the zippers on.

What we found about both locks is that the Freeform lock feels more premium, futuristic, and easier to lock, while the Omni PC lock also looks quite durable, functional, and secure. We don’t say it’s the best, but it’s still excellent.

Note: You’ll find the default lock 000 at the time of purchase. But of course you can set your own code. Once you’re done with your code, no one can open it except you and obviously the TSA agent. You don’t require any key to lock or unlock it.

Telescopic Wheel Handle

When we talk about the handles, both suitcases offer excellent handles with multi-level adjustable features. However, both handles feel a little flimsy, which is totally normal with all the luggage on the market. Apart from that, they are really sturdy, comfortable, slide smoothly, and live up to expectations.

No matter what your height is, you can adjust the handle according to your height with the help of the push button that is on the top. Both handles go all the way up to the same height, so you can carry your carry-on with your checked luggage at the same time with no issues.

Let’s talk about the aesthetics of both handles. The Freeform handle comes in silver and is designed in such a way that it looks more futuristic, while the Omni PC handle comes in black and leans towards being more premium.

Overall, both handles look premium; however, they are totally different in terms of design and style. But it doesn’t impact the performance or functionality of the suitcases.

Carry Handles

Both carry handles are durable and robust enough, but the thing we didn’t like about the 20-inch carry on the Omni PC is that it doesn’t have a side carry handle, which is really disappointing. Samsonite has cut costs with the Omni PC carry-on by giving only the top grip handle. So you cannot carry your luggage in a horizontal position.

Another thing that we didn’t like about both pieces of luggage is that they don’t come with a bottom handle, unlike the Traveler’s Choice Pagosa. We realize it is a must-have feature that Samsonite must take care of. A bottom handle proves really helpful when it comes to putting luggage in the overhead compartments.

Which suitcase is better at maneuverability: Freeform or Omni PC?

Both the Samsonite Freeform and the Samsonite Omni PC offer quite durable and multi-directional wheels. We found no issues with the quality or durability of the wheels. They did really well; they performed quite nicely even on the carpet. What we realize about wheels is that they move even better when they have some weight inside.

The wheels on both pieces of luggage are not heavy-duty, but the quality is decent. But again, the Freeform goes one step ahead when it comes to maneuverability. This is because the Samsonite Freeform comes with a dual spinner wheel and offers better stability, while the Samsonite Omni PC comes with only single spinner wheels.

You must be aware that dual-spinner wheels offer better stability than single-spinner wheels. That is also one of the big differences that sets them apart.

Price and Value: Are Freeform and Omni PC Worth the Investment?

Samsonite has always been known for providing affordable products without compromising on material quality or features. But when it comes to the Samsonite Freeform and the Samsonite Omni PC, we experienced that the Samsonite Omni PC offers better value for money.

The Samsonite Omni PC offers competitive pricing; if you try to get a piece of luggage with the same quality from any other brand, you’ll probably spend more than the Omni PC. It has all the essential features. Undoubtedly, it has some negatives, such as no dual spinner wheels, fewer organization pockets, and no carry handle on the carry-on version, but it is still a great choice.

When it comes to Freeform, it’s a little pricey. This is because it does a better job than the Omni PC, such as having a dual spinner wheel for better maneuverability, a futuristic exterior, and a TSA lock design.

If you are someone who needs everything and is ready to spend a little more, then the Samsonite Freeform is the perfect choice for you. However, if you’re looking for a budget-friendly option and are ready to make compromises on small things, then you should surely go for the Samsonite Omni PC. Both of them will prove to be great investments for your travels.

MODELCOST

Omni PC 20-Inch Carry-On $100–$125
Freeform 24-Inch Check-InAround $180
Omni PC 24-Inch Check-In$135–$160

Omni PC 28-Inch Check-In$155–$180 (Even $130 Sometimes)

Warranty and Customer Support

Samsonite offers the same warranty for all its luggage. Similarly, the Samsonite Freeform and the Samsonite Omni PC are protected with a 10-year limited warranty, so you can have peace of mind that your investment is secure.

But the important thing to note here is that Samsonite offers a warranty only against manufacturing defects, which include zippers, handles, wheels, and stitching. It means Samsonite will only address issues related to the construction of the luggage.

But if your luggage is damaged because of improper handling or transportation, It won’t be covered under the warranty. However, you can still get it repaired even without a warranty, but for that, you may have to pay.

Weight and Dimensions

Knowing the exact weight and dimensions of your luggage is extremely important when looking for a piece of luggage because it can cause problems if you don’t know the proper guidelines of the airline you’re flying with.

As we’re talking about the Samsonite Freeform and the Samsonite Omni PC, both luggage have small differences in their weights and dimensions. First of all, you must be aware that the Freeform carry-on comes in at 21 inches, while the Omni PC is 20 inches. It means that the Samsonite Freeform is a little bigger than the Omni PC in terms of dimension.

However, the amount of space you’ll be getting inside the Freeform carry-on will be the same as what you get inside the Omni PC. This is because the Freeform design has some edges and corners to make it more futuristic, which is great but surely impacts the volume of the suitcase. So you’ll have to make a little compromise on space, so the space you’ll be getting will be similar to that of the Omni PC.

The same thing applies to all the sizes on the Samsonite Freeform, especially with the 28-inch check-in luggage. The 28-inch check-in luggage of the Freeform comes with a lesser amount of space than the Samsonite Omni PC.

We’re providing a weight and dimension table below, which you can have a look at in order to know the exact weight and dimensions.

MODELDIMENSIONWEIGHT

How Do They Compare with Luggage Options from Other Brands?

We found the Samsonite Freeform to be one of the best luggage options in terms of design, performance, and functionality, and the Samsonite Omni PC also proved to be a great piece of luggage with its own advantages.

But we’re sharing some other luggage options from other brands that offer great value for money and are worth considering.

Samsonite Winfield 2 Hardside Luggage

Samsonite Winfielt 2 polycarboate hardside luggage | luggagelovers.com

However, the Samsonite Winfield 2 hardside luggage comes from the same Samsonite brand. Still, we’ve included it in this list because it’s one of Samsonite’s most popular and value-for-money products.

This piece of luggage is made of the same polycarbonate material that has been used in the Samsonite Omni PC. The Samsonite Winfield 2 is one of the most durable and sturdy luggage options. It offers all the essential features, including a 360-degree wheel, a telescopic handle, an expandable zipper, and, most importantly, a TSA lock. It’s the closest competitor to the Samsonite Omni PC and the Samsonite Freeform from the same brand. It also comes with the same 10-year limited warranty.

You can surely give this luggage a chance. You’ll surely fall in love with the luggage because of its outstanding performance.

Delsey Paris Helium Aero Hardside Spinner

the image is of the delsey paris helium aero 19 inch hardside spinner luggage

Another piece of luggage is the Delsey Paris Helium Aero hardside spinner luggage from Delsey Paris. This luggage is also an excellent choice, primarily because of the laptop sleeve in the outer compartment of the 19-inch carry-on version of the Helium Aero.

The Delsey Helium Aero is also made of 100% polycarbonate material, like the Samsonite Omni PC and the Winfield 2.

What we’ve experienced about the Delsey is that it offers even better quality and durability than the Samsonite, which is why the brand is a little more expensive than the Samsonite.

The Helium Aero comes with all the features, such as 360-degree wheels, a TSA-approved lock, and expansion up to 2 inches, so you can pack even more.

The best thing is that it offers dual spinner wheels, unlike the Samsonite Omni PC. It means that it offers better stability and maneuverability on different surfaces.

Kenneth Cole Out-of-Bound Hardside Luggage

Kenneth Cole 62 Linear Inches hardside Luggage with spinner wheels

Kenneth Cole’s Out of Bound is also a piece of luggage that is worth exploring, especially for those who have a very low budget. The luggage is made of ABS material, which is lightweight but not as durable as polycarbonate and polypropylene.

So it means the luggage is less durable than the Samsonite Freeform and the Samsonite Omni PC.

The thing we didn’t like about Out of Bound is that it doesn’t come with an expansion feature, so you won’t be able to pack more, and there is no TSA lock, so you have to get it separately.

The thing we liked about the luggage is the reinforced corners that make it more protected. Apart from that, the luggage comes with features such as 360-degree spinner wheels and a retractable handle.

We’ve included it in the list for those who have a really low budget and are still looking for a durable luggage option.

We do our best to come up with the newest fashion trends with authentic and genuine information. This ensures that every item of luggage we recommend comes with the approval of industry experts.

We’re committed to providing a valuable guide so that you don’t end up getting the wrong piece of product and invest your money in the right place.

Conclusion: Which One Should You Consider: Freeform or Omni?

We compared both the Samsonite Freeform and the Samsonite Omni PC on multiple parameters such as durability, features, maneuverability, and organization, and we found that they are excellent pieces of luggage. Obviously, they come with their own benefits and disadvantages.

If you’re someone looking for a piece of durable luggage with a modern and futuristic design and are ready to spend a little more, then the Samsonite Freeform is surely an excellent choice for you. The best thing about the Freeform is that it offers 360-degree dual wheels for better maneuverability, a premium-looking TSA-approved lock on all its sizes, and better organization for efficient packing.

However, if you’re looking for a durable and premium piece of luggage at an affordable price, then the Samsonite Omni PC is definitely for you. The best thing about the Omni PC is that it’s made of polycarbonate, which is the most durable plastic material. The thing that makes it unique is that it never looks like a budget suitcase and enhances the personality of the traveler. It also offers good maneuverability, TSA lock, and expansion up to 2 inches.

Of course, there are certain things that could have been added, such as a USB charging port to the carry-on of the Freeform and the Omni PC for travelers who need to charge their phones or tablets while waiting at airports. Another thing that should be improved is the unavailability of a bottom grab handle on luggage to make it convenient for travelers to fit the luggage in the overhead compartments.

Both pieces of luggage are scratch-resistant, but we experienced that both pieces got some scratches with time. You can surely use protective luggage covers to make your luggage secure and shine forever.

Overall, both the Samsonite Freeform and the Samsonite Omni PC are great options. You can choose anyone according to your budget and requirements. We assure you, it’ll be a great decision and a worthwhile investment for your travels.
